Welcome to the Catlin Gabel Robotics Society. The Catlin Gabel Robotics Society competes annually in the FIRST Robotics competition as Team 1540. Our FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) robots are designed to complete challenges along with other robots in a regional, and if we're lucky, a national competition. To find out more about FIRST, check out the FIRST Competition link on the menu bar.
The Robotics Society is an extracurricular activity at Catlin Gabel. No matter whether your focus is mechanical, electronic, software engineering, web development, CAD (Computer Aided Design), multimedia production, marketing, finance, graphics design, or public relations, there's something here for you.
The Robotics Society works like a small company. In the Fall students learn new skills and earn certification in the fields of their choice. Starting in January we work insanely long hours for six weeks to build a robot for entry in the nationwide FIRST Robotics Competition.
Volunteers from the faculty and local industry lend assistance and teach new concepts as needed. We are, however, particularly proud that our robot is 100% student built! Selected Upper School robotics participants also act as mentors for students in the Catlin Gabel Middle School LEGO robotics program.
To get more of an idea what all this is about, check out the photos of the 2004 FIRST National Competition Photo Slideshow (Requires Flash -- which is downloadable on next page).
Thanks to everyone who came out to the tournament on the 10-12th!
