Welcome to the website of FIRST Robotics Team 1540!
The Catlin Gabel Robotics Society, an extra-curricular activity at the Catlin Gabel School in Portland Oregon, competes annually in the FIRST Robotics Competition as Team 1540, The Flaming Chickens.
For the challenge we design, build, program and test a 120 pound robot to complete challenges and compete against 5 other robots in a series of 2.5 minute matches.
For the 2007 competition year, we competed at the Pacific Northwest Regional in Portland Oregon, the San Diego Regional, and the FIRST World Championship in Atlanta Georgia held in the Georgia Dome.
The Robotics Society is unlike any other activity you've ever participated in. Whether you're involved with Mechanical Engineering (Robot Fabrication), Control Systems (Electrical Engineering and Pneumatics), Software Engineering, Computer Aided Design (CAD), Website Design, Multimedia Production, Graphic Design, Public Relations or something else entirely, chances are your skills are quintessential to running a successfull robotics team (learn more about our Departments).
Unlike what you might expect, robotics is entirely student run. We bring in mentors from the Catlin Gabel Faculty and the local industry to help us learn our fields, but then we construct our robot entirely ourselves with as little mentor interaction as possible. Our general rule of thumb is simple: mentors can help us lift the robot and move it somewhere; anything more than that is too involved.
Check out the "Volunteers" page for information on our wonderful volunteers.
Our team could never operate without the support of our "Sponsors." Thank you Sponsors!
