Team 1540. The name holds sentiment with our proud alumni. Its meaning carried by each of our flaming chickens.
Each day, every flaming chicken strides purposefully into our lab, bustling with the whirring of machinery, and the excited conversing of software programmers and fabrication students alike.
Since 2005, Team 1540, known as the Flaming Chickens, has competed in the FIRST Robotics Competition. Team 1540 comes from The Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon.
FIRST, an organization founded to fulfill the great purpose of its name (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics is unlike any other activity you have ever participated in. Whether you are involved with fabrication, control systems, software engineering, website design, marketing, PR, outreach, or something else entirely, chances are your skills are quintessential to running a successful robotics team. Learn more about our different departments here.
We receive the help of mentors from the Catlin Gabel faculty and local industries to help us learn our fields, but our competition robots are entirely student designed and built. We are proud to say that during the build season, adults don't touch the robot or the keyboard.
