The Catlin Gabel Robotics Society, an extra-curricular activity at the Catlin Gabel School in Portland Oregon, competes annually in the FIRST Robotics competition as Team 1540, The Flaming Chickens.
At Team 1540, we are in the process of designing, building, programming and testing a robot to compete in the 2008 FIRST challenge. For information about this year's challenge, called Overdrive, visit our page about the challenge here. After taking a few team votes, we decided to name this year's competition robot Nemo, in a bit of a departure from our usual chicken theme. Learn more about our robots of past and present here.
In the 2008 competition year, we participated in the Oregon Regional, which ran from February 28-March 1st. We also attended the Las Vegas regional on March 27-29. In addition, we had a GREAT time at the 2008 Championship in Atlanta, which ran from April 17-19. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us through this great season and look forward to more fun next year!
FIRST Robotics is unlike any other activity you've ever participated in. Whether you're involved with Fabrication, Control Systems, Software Engineering, Website Design, Marketing or something else entirely, chances are your skills are quintessential to running a successful robotics team. Learn more about our different departments here.

Unlike what some of the uninitiated might expect, robotics at Catlin Gabel is entirely student-run. We bring in mentors from the Catlin Gabel faculty and local industries to help us learn our fields, but we construct our robot entirely by ourselves with as little mentor interaction as possible. Our general rule of thumb is simple: mentors can help us lift the robot and move it somewhere; anything more than that is considered too involved.
